5 door Mahindra Thar ready to compete with Jimny, first look surfaced

car news desk, Mahindra & Mahindra has been testing the 5-door Thar in India for a long time now. Test mules of the car have been spotted multiple times. The new spy images reveal that the SUV has reached its final stages. The model seen seems to be a near production model. Once launched, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which will be launched in India this year.

How much will it cost?
The company has not yet disclosed its debut and launch timeline. However, the 5-door Thar is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2023. Its market launch can happen at the end of this year or sometime next year. With rugged styling, a 5/7-seat layout and off-road capability, the longer version of the Thar will emerge as a more practical option for city buyers. The price of the SUV is expected to start from Rs.15 lakhs.

At the heart of the new Mahindra Thar 5-door will be a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo diesel engine. Both the motors, which will be borrowed from the 3-door Thar, could be tuned to generate more power and torque. It can be mated to either a manual or an automatic gearbox. Dimensionally, the 5-door Thar will be longer and more spacious than its sibling. With the longer wheelbase, the SUV may get a slightly lower ramp-over angle than the 3-door Thar.

The new Mahindra SUV will get 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity and navigation system, black interior theme, roof mounted speakers, tire pressure monitor, electronic stability control program with rollover mitigation, Can be ISOFIX child features. Seat mounts, hill start and descent assist, electronic stability program with rollover mitigation, circular AC vents, steering mounted controls, rear parking, multiple airbags and many more.
