auto news desk,Maruti Suzuki introduced its Jimny (5-door version) at the Auto Expo 2023 in January and started booking it. Maruti Suzuki Jimny is getting good response from the customers. It is also to be launched soon. But, it’s not going to be an easy road as a 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar is also on the way. Mahindra Thar is currently sold in a three-door version but its 5-door version has been spotted several times during testing. However, the timeline of its launch is not clear yet. It is expected that it can be launched in the middle of this year.
The new model will come with a longer wheelbase and will also get more space in the cabin (compared to the current 3-door Thar). It will be more practical than the current 3-door model. According to media reports, the 5-door Mahindra Thar could get a metal or plastic hard top and the soft top option could be dropped. It will get alloy wheels with chunkier spokes, new types of sleek side steps can also be found. When launched, it will completely compete with the Maruti Jimny.
The 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar is likely to get the existing powertrain options only. Which will be in line with BS-6 Phase-2. However, no information has been revealed about its powertrain options yet. Let us tell you that Mahindra recently also launched the RWD version of Thar, which can be continued in its 5-door version as well. This means that the new Mahindra Thar will not only come in a 5-door 4X4, but it can also come in a RWD setup.
