
auto news desk, Toyota is set to expand its Urban Cruiser line-up internationally with a new SUV. Its name will be Toyota Urban Cruiser Icon. It will first be available for sale in Indonesia, after which it will be launched in other markets. The company currently sells the Urban Cruiser Highrider SUV in India and South Africa. Which is the rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
How is this new Toyota SUV?
The new Urban Cruiser Icon will be completely different from the discontinued Urban Cruiser in India and the existing Urban Cruiser Highrider. It has been given the codename D03B. The car will be based on the Daihatsu DNGA platform. On which Toyota Avanza and Rage SUV are also built. It is currently being called the Toyota Urban Cruiser Icon, but could be called the “Yaris Cross” when launched in Indonesia. Although Toyota already has an SUV named “Yaris Cross” in some international markets, which is based on the TNGA-B architecture. It is completely different and longer than that.
Dimensions
This new SUV from Toyota will come above the Rage in the company’s portfolio. Its length will be around 4.3 meters. The wheelbase of this 5 seater SUV will be similar to that of the Avanza, which is 2,655 mm. That is, it will get more cabin space than its rival Hyundai Creta. The wheelbase of the Creta is 2,610 mm.
What will the powertrain be like?
The new Toyota SUV will use the RAGE powertrain based on the DNGA platform. It will get Toyota’s 1.5-litre petrol engine with or without hybrid technology. Although it is not expected to be launched in India. In the global market, this car will compete with Hyundai Creta. Currently there is a very long waiting list for existing Toyota new cars in India.
