auto news desk,Mahindra & Mahindra (CY) will launch the Thar 5-door in India in 2024. While the Thar was initially offered with a standard 4WD, Mahindra launched the RWD version of the popular off-roader earlier this year. According to Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director and chief executive (auto and agriculture sector), Mahindra, the Thar 5-door will be introduced in the market in calendar year 24 instead of launching in calendar year 23. Mahindra Thar Engine Options
The Thar gets three engine options – 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel (117bhp/300Nm), 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel (130bhp/300Nm) and 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol (150bhp/320Nm). The 1.5-litre diesel engine could be mated to a 6-speed MT. The 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol mills get 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options. The SUV now gets both 4WD and RWD options.

These features will be available in 5-door Thar
There is a possibility that you can see the updated touchscreen infotainment system, sun glass holder and center armrest in Thar. Like the three-door version of the Thar, the 5-door Thar can get bigger wheels and tailgate mounted spare wheel and round headlamps. On the design front, the signature boxy stance will continue in the upcoming Thar like other Mahindra & Mahindra models.

Maruti’s Jimny will face tough competition
The Thar 5-door will compete with the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny, it is likely that Maruti’s Jimny will hit the market in the first week of June 2023. You can get a longer wheelbase in the 5-door Thar. Which could be around 300mm longer than Mahindra’s 3-door counterpart. In the upcoming Thar, you can get a bigger cabin for more space.
