auto news desk, Just as Lexus is a luxury car brand from Toyota, Genesis is a luxury automotive brand from Hyundai Motor Group. But, it does not have a long history. It was launched only a few years back and is yet to be brought to India. But, according to media reports, Hyundai Motor Group is now planning to bring its Genesis brand to India. Hyundai India MD and CEO Unsoo Kim has said that the company and its stakeholders are studying the potential of the Genesis brand in India.

“If we bring in the Genesis brand, there will be an emphasis on local assembly as imports will not do much better,” he added. However, this may not happen this year. The CKD route will help make the model available at a slightly lower price point than the CBU route, helping Genesis tap into the established luxury market in India.

Genesis was established in 2015 and is currently present in several international markets outside South Korea, such as North America, China, Australia, and Europe. The models under this brand have their own unit styling, which bears little resemblance to the regular Hyundai models. Its current lineup includes three sedans and an SUV, including an EV. The models in the Genesis lineup will compete with cars from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and Volvo. Its locally assembled luxury offering will start from around Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom), while the most premium model will cost around Rs 1 crore.
