5 door Thar is coming to compete with Jimny, know when it will be launched

car news desk, Mahindra & Mahindra has crossed the production mark of 1 lakh units within 2.5 years of the launch of its Thar SUV in the Indian market. In January 2023, the company has introduced a rear-wheel drive variant of this SUV with a 1.5-liter diesel engine. To further increase its sales, the company is going to bring its new 4X4 base variant and new 4X4 White color option. Along with this, Mahindra & Mahindra is also preparing to bring a 5-door version of Thar.

The wheelbase of the 5-door Mahindra Thar is 300mm longer than the 3-door model. Along with this, there is a possibility of getting new body panels with more width. Compared to its 3-door version, the 5-door version also gets doors on the rear seats. However, its interior layout will be similar to the current model. It will get to see a bigger boot space with more space.

What will the powertrain be like?
The 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar is likely to share the same powertrain as the Scorpio N. That is, its engine will be more powerful than the 3-door Thar. It is likely to get 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines. Which will be capable of producing 200bhp/370-380Nm and 130bhp/370Nm and 172bhp/300Nm outputs respectively. It will be offered with manual and automatic gearboxes. The Thar 3-door version gets the option of a 2.2L turbo diesel generating power of 132bhp and a 2.0L petrol engine generating power of 152bhp.

This model will come with 4X4 & 4X2
Apart from the engine, the 5-door Thar will also share the Scorpio N’s ladder-on-frame chassis. The small lifestyle SUV will be updated using this chassis. The new model will come with a 4X4 drivetrain system and a manual-shift transfer case. The car will also be available with 4X4 and 4X2/RWD systems.
