
auto news desk, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today revealed its Electric Vehicle (EV) roadmap, announcing two new electric scooters that will be launched in FY2024. One of these will have a fixed battery, while the other is likely to be electric. The Activa will come with swappable batteries.Honda plans to introduce two electric scooters in India by FY2024. The Narsapura plant in Karnataka will have a new production line dedicated to EVs and will have an annual manufacturing capacity of one million vehicles. Also, HMSI is going ahead with its ICE model. Honda Two-Wheelers India is also gearing up to expand its export business from India. Currently the company exports 18 models to 38 countries, which is expected to expand to 20 models in 58 countries.
Honda to boost exports to 58 countries by FY2024
To support the export numbers, HMSI will introduce a new scooter manufacturing line-up at its Vitthalpur plant in Gujarat. This will increase the annual capacity to 6 lakh vehicles to cater to both domestic and overseas markets. Honda NAVI, though discontinued in India, remains HMSI’s largest exported model. As part of its carbon neutrality measures, Honda is looking to expand electrification of two-wheelers and introduce advanced ICE engine, as well as offering flex-fuel models.
Honda to introduce flex-fuel model in India
In Honda’s premium motorcycle range, the company will introduce a new crossover model based on its CB350 platform by Diwali 2023. We expect the new 350cc motorcycle to be a scrambler-styled model. According to Atsushi Ogata, President, MD and CEO of HMSI, a new 300cc crossover or ADV model is under consideration, but as of now, there is no approval from Japan to develop that model in India.
