
auto news desk, Mahindra has increased the prices of the Thar SUV range. The SUV has been costlier by up to 1.05 lakh. Actually, Mahindra Thar has been updated according to BS6 Phase-2 and RDE emission norms, due to which the prices have also been increased. After the price hike, the Thar X (O) hard top diesel MT RWD version is now costlier by Rs 55,000. Similarly, the Mahindra Thar LX hard top diesel MT RWD version has now become costlier by Rs 1.05 lakh. The price of other models of the SUV has increased by Rs 28,000.
Now the new price of the top-spec LX hard top diesel AT 4WD of the Mahindra Thar SUV is Rs 16.77 lakh (ex-showroom). The base variant costs Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). With the price hike of Rs. 55,000 for the entry-level variant of the Mahindra Thar, its starting price has become much higher than before. However, in order to keep the starting prices of Mahindra Thar low, the company is planning to launch a new variant, which could be placed below the existing AX (O) variant as the new base-spec variant. However, it is not clear what features will be offered in this new base variant.
Mahindra Thar is available in two versions, rear-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. The rear-wheel drive variant comes with two powertrain options – 2.0-litre turbocharged (150 PS, 6-speed automatic gearbox) petrol engine and 1.5-litre (115 PS, 6-speed manual gearbox) diesel engine. Its 4-wheel drive version is also available with two engine options – 2.0-litre (150 PS) turbocharged petrol engine and 2.2-litre (130 PS) diesel engine. Both the powertrains come with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
