auto news desk, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it will introduce a new premium MPV in the Indian market. This new model will be based on the Toyota Innova Highcross and will be available for sale by July 2023. In a regulatory filing last year, Toyota said it is preparing to launch a C-MPV in the financial year 2022-2023, which it will share with ally Maruti Suzuki. Recently, Maruti Suzuki management confirmed that they will buy a vehicle from Toyota.

Maruti Premium MPV Features

Since the inception of the Toyota-Suzuki alliance in 2017, Suzuki-built vehicles such as the now-discontinued Vitara Brezza and Baleno have been cross-badged and sold as the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Glanza (or Starlet in South Africa) in India. have been sold. Currently the latest generation Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga and even Celerio are sold as Toyota additions in some markets including South Africa and the Middle East. This upcoming premium MPV on the other hand will be the first Toyota product to be rebadged for Maruti Suzuki in India and sold through Nexa dealership variant as its flagship model. Toyota’s two models in Europe, the RAV-4 and the Corolla wagon, are sold as Suzuki’s offerings, the A-Cross and Swas, respectively.

What will be different in Maruti premium MPV?

The new Maruti MPV will be based on the Toyota TNGA-C architecture. It is expected to get the naturally aspirated petrol and strong hybrid petrol engines that can be seen on the Innova Highcross. Like other cross-badged products from the alliance, we expect the Maruti version of the Innova Highcross to see some different styling, mainly at the front with a grille, and a different bumper and headlamp design. Some more styling tweaks at the rear could include a unique tail-lamp design with Nexa theme currently seen on the Grand Vitara, Baleno and Forks.
