Both these new models will be rebadged versions of Maruti Suzuki’s existing cars. The company has trademarked the names Rage, Rage Space and Taisor in India.
Will be based on Maruti cars
The company’s upcoming compact SUV could be named Raize or Taisor. The company is selling a compact SUV called the Rise in several markets including Japan and Indonesia. The length of this SUV will be around 4 meters. In India, this car will compete with Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue. However, its India-spec model could be based on the Franks crossover or the Maruti Brezza. Toyota has already discontinued the Urban Cruiser compact SUV, which was a rebadged version of Maruti’s older Vitara Brezza. Toyota will launch a rebadged version of the Francs crossover in India.

Some media reports have claimed that Toyota may launch re-badged versions of Brezza and Franks in India. The company will not be using the Urban Cruiser name, as the name is already in use with Toyota’s Highrider. The re-badged Brezza could be offered as the Toyota Raz or the Raz Space. While the re-badged francs could be introduced as Toyota Taisor.

The new Toyota SUV coupe could include design elements similar to the Yaris Cross. It will be offered with two engine options, which will include a 1.0L 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol and a 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine. Both these engines will be equipped with Suzuki’s mild hybrid technology. These produce outputs of 100bhp/147.6Nm and 90bhp/113Nm respectively. Transmission options include 5-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter and AMT.
Will compete with Hyundai Venue
Toyota’s new compact SUV will compete with the Hyundai Venue, in which a petrol, a turbo petrol and a diesel engine option is available.
